About Breakout
Atari, 1976. Nolan Bushnell wanted a single-player Pong, and engineer Allan Alcorn handed the project to a young Steve Jobs, then on Atari's staff. Jobs brought in his friend Steve Wozniak, who built the hardware over four sleepless nights with a chip count nobody at Atari thought possible — a collaboration that, a few years later, became Apple.
How to play
- Mouse / finger
- Move paddle
- Click / tap
- Launch the ball
Tips
- The ball's bounce angle depends on WHERE on the paddle it hits — edges give you steep angles, center gives you a flat shot.
- Go for the corners first; once the ball is above the top row of bricks it ricochets and clears a lot at once.
- The ball speeds up every level and your score carries over — bank a lead while level 1 is slow, then read the later walls (Checkers and Fortress leave gaps that scatter your bounce).
